– The third edition of the #BetwayCares Skills Hub officially got underway on Wednesday, 28 April as Betway in partnership with Netball South Africa (NSA) took the first step in launching the careers of more than 20 aspiring coaches from the Capricorn district of Limpopo.
The leading sports betting and entertainment company is on a nationwide community sport upliftment drive under the #BetwayCares Skills Hub programme which will see coaches, administrators and technical officials being upskilled with the necessary qualifications to improve the standard of sport in their communities.
With Netball being the focus area for the month of April, 20 aspiring Netball coaches have assembled for the 3-Day coaching course under the auspices of Netball South Africa.
Spearheaded by seasoned netball coaching instructor and SA Men’s national team assistant coach, Francois Nel, the opening day of the course focused on the latest trends in Netball coaching, with an even stronger focus on the characteristics required in the modern day coach, which include integrity, passion and accountability.
Commenting on the enthusiasm displayed by the coaches on the opening day, NSA Coaching Instructor, Nel said that he was encouraged by the eagerness displayed by the coaches in grasping the content, saying that it augured well for the future of the sport.
“A lot of coaches tend to struggle grasping the content on the opening day but it was so encouraging to witness so much enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day. We continue seeing growth in the sport of netball in our communities and having such a vibrant group of coaches can only indicate a bright future for the sport,” said Nel.
As part of its Freedom Month celebrations, Betway has themed this month’s #BetwayCares Skills Hub programme as “Freedom Through Sport”
which will see the brand inviting key industry speakers to the course to further empower the participants in their coaching journey.
#BetwayCares Skills Hub programme ambassador as well as Spar-Proteas assistant coach, Dumisani Chauke is amongst the expected guest speakers to share their knowledge and experience of the sports industry.
The #BetwayCares Skills Hub is a nationwide programme that aims to bridge the gap between the shortage of skills and the employability South Africans during these challenging economic times.
