Throughout the year, Betway has conducted monthly donations and workshops through its #BetwayCares drive. A total of 25 organisations representing numerous sporting disciplines benefited from the drive receiving a broad range of support and assistance.
As its final #BetwayCares initiative of 2020, the sports betting provider donated 30 pairs of soccer boots to Alexandra based women’s football club, Blue Birds FC.
During a December 15 event announcing the Blue Birds FC donation, former Banyana Banyana player, Simphiwe Dludlu, who also hails from the Alexandra township and is a strong advocate for women’s football, applauded Betway for being a force for positive change in South Africa.
“Our townships have an abundance of talent, which at times falls by the wayside due to lack of resources. For football in particular, the high costs of boots is a primary reason why a number of girls are unable to pursue a career in football. This kind gesture from Betway, which is in addition to the wonderful work that they have done throughout the year across our local communities, is truly commendable,” said Dludlu.
Reflecting on the betting provider’s work in 2020, Betway South Africa’s Marketing Manager, David Rachidi thanked all the clubs, federations, organisations and athletes that joined hands with Betway to make a difference through the #BetwayCares drive.
“As we wrap up what has been a very challenging year for sport, we stand proud to have remained true to our commitment of making a difference to South African communities through our passion for giving back and aiding the development of community based sport organisations. The #BetwayCares drive remains important to us as a brand that derives great satisfaction from the prospering of community based sport organisations, athletes and local associations,” said Rachidi.
With the conclusion of the 2020 #BetwayCares drive, the betting provider is already looking towards 2021 to renew and expand its efforts. Betway will continue with its community-based efforts with a refined approach that will see the brand partnering with various stakeholders to maximise the impact the initiative can have, said Rachidi.
