Betway South Africa
is continuing to make strides in their goal of leaving a lasting legacy in local football. We have partnered with the Mamelodi Local Football Association (LFA) to identify and upskill 35 aspiring football coaches with a SAFA D License coaching course set to take place in Mamelodi between 29 October and 2 November.
The Mamelodi Local Football Association administers football in and around the Mamelodi township for clubs aiming to qualify for the various SAFA Leagues. Taking note of this immense potential and passion within the Mamelodi township, Betway will, for the next five days, work closely with the LFA to afford the coaches an opportunity to get upskilled and empower them to plough back into their respective communities.
The SAFA D License coaching certificate, which is an entry level to professional coaching, will assist in improving the coaches’ abilities as well as contributing to positively building on the standard of football in the township of Mamelodi – which has produced star player such as Mamelodi Sundowns player, George Lebese.
As part of the various community upliftment initiatives done in South Africa and the rest of the continent, Betway recently donated training kit and funds to two football clubs for the elderly in Soweto.
Speaking at the opening of day of the course in Mamelodi, Head of Marketing Betway Africa, Mark Rowles said they were proud to be making such a unique and impactful difference to the Mamelodi community. “This is another exciting initiative that Betway is proud to be involved in. Football plays a huge role in bringing communities together, and this initiative allows us to lend a hand in improving the state of football at a development level. As Betway, we take pride in providing such platforms for our up and coming coaches” said Rowles.
Echoing Rowles’ sentiments, Mamelodi Local Football Association chairperson, Soso Mashiloane said the involvement of community focused organisations such as Betway will go a long way in aiding football development. “As the Mamelodi Local Football Association we would like to express our utmost gratitude to Betway for what they are doing for our community. We committed to seeking ways to develop our coaches, referees, players and administrators and such partnerships play a massive role in helping us achieve our goals,” said Mashiloane.
Amongst other topics, the course will touch on the latest theoretical and practical coaching methods. This will also include the use of technology in modern football.
The five-day SAFA D License coaching course will conclude on Friday, 2 November where the coaches will conduct a coaching festival which will involve 100 players from the various Mamelodi football clubs.
